Product Description
The landmark PBS TV series Keeping Score is reminiscent of Leonard Bernstein's Young People's Concerts. Featuring Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony, it gives audiences a unique perspective on the works of master composers and how their personalities and emotions are embodied in their music. The pilot broadcast for the series, in two parts, is a viewer's backstage pass to witness how a performance unfolds, followed by a complete performance of Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony. In the Beethoven program, the viewer is invited to discover the Eroica Symphony and the circumstances surrounding its composition. The next program shows why Stravinsky's wild "rainforest of sound" in The Rite of Spring remains as exhilarating and liberating as music can be, nearly a century after its debut performance. The fourth broadcast explores the cityscapes, landscapes, and social and political developments that shaped the music of Aaron Copland and its distinctly American identity. These DVDs are filled with educational value for music students at all levels from elementary through college!
