Bernie's Tune
If you have a stellar alto sax player or want to feature a guest artist, this is the chart for you! In 1959, Art Pepper recorded 12 tunes backed by an 11-piece "little big band." The Marty Paich charts focusing on modern jazz classics include this arrangement of Bernie's Tune. This bright swinger featured Art Pepper as the soloist on alto sax. The instrumentation is alto sax 1 (solo), alto sax 2, tenor sax, bari sax, trumpets 1 & 2, horn in F, trombones 1 & 2, piano, bass, and drums. Trumpet 3 and trombone 3 parts are included as alternates for the horn. Edited and engraved from the original score and parts, this is a challenging vehicle for both soloist and band, but it's well worth the effort. Really a great chart!
