For the church choir hesitant to perform a full cantata for Easter or Holy Week, this work provides a breathtaking option. While the orchestration is lovely, this suspenseful setting could be performed with just the piano accompaniment and be very well received. "A broken man, a cross of pain, a barren tree where a bleeding lamb is slain. A shrouded sun, a blackened sky, a silent tomb where the Lord of life would lie. An empty cross, a ransom paid as the day of darkness fades..." Very well thought out, this impressive piece of music would be fitting for churches of various sizes.
