Turkey in the Straw

Turkey in the Straw is a fresh approach to the widely known pre Civil War American Folk Song, and ideally scored for advanced middle school or most typical high school bands. It is one of the five selections from CWJ Music House's American Folk Song Suite, published for concert band. In addition to this ever-familiar tune, it also includes the lesser-known tune, Chicken on the Fence Post, another children's song from pre Civil War American history. These tunes are interwoven in a truly American sounding concert band setting using a variety of musical styles. The syncopated rhythms and cut time helps portray the idea that one would be at a country barn dance.
