Valses Nobles et Sentimentales
Publisher Desc.
Here is Ravel's early satire on the waltz, not as monumental in scope as La Valse, but just as witty and biting, just as rich in musical affection as in sarcasm. All pieces full-length, original keys. Some editing for range of leaps, density of harmony, and respellings of many chords to reflect the underlying tonality, which the original French typesetter and editor, Lucien Garban, did not deem important. Some rhythms expanded, others cut in half, to reflect how the music really sounds in common practice. Easy pageturns throughout, most are two-page pieces with pages facing for NO turns at ALL! The audio sample is Valse No.2, A quiet reflective Sentimental piece, with both dissonance and langour. Look for the entire MR solo piano oeuvre from GateWay Editions, distributed exclusively by J.W. Pepper.
