Rain and Snow on the Cedar Cliffs

Two traditional Appalachian tunes are the basis of this vivid portrait of a rough and rugged mountain range. Introducing the piece is the beautiful and haunting melody of Rain and Snow, a tune that tells the story of a man and wife struggling to make ends meet. The second section is the more lively and widely recognized Old Joe Clark, which is developed as a fantasy and joined by the first tune for a hoedown finish.
