The Lake in the Sky

Sustained melodic lines greet the listener, quiet and faint, as if from a faraway distance. These lyric motives drift about as if floating on air, building in intensity as they lead to regal fanfares that triumphantly echo through the concert hall. Inspired by the writings of Francis Drake, it provides an excellent cross-curricular teaching opportunity.
