Erebus and Terror: The Lost Ships

Images of excitement, bravery and sorrow depict the search for the Northwest Passage. The anticipation of the start is heard with a rousing melodic theme which then ebbs as the gravity of their journey sinks in, but courage is again renewed as the trumpets tell the story. The tragic crash of the ships ends the piece with strong chromatic dissonances. The journey is over, but not the story of these brave explorers.
