Lanterns in the Sky

An exhilarating hot-air balloon ride was the inspiration for this concert and festival work for young band. The opening explosion of energy and sound that begins the piece will command everyone's immediate attention. Then the energy subsides and builds again as we begin our glorious flight, with the music taking on a soaring quality that gives the effect of floating on air. A beautifully expressive middle section follows, invoking imagery of the incredible views and gentle breezes; then the opening theme returns, bringing the piece and our journey to a glorious conclusion.
