Using the famous four-note motive from the first movement of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, Randall Standridge has constructed a fantastic meditation on the famous symphony. The work is divided into four sections: a powerful and exciting introduction, a playful gigue in compound meter, a lyrical third section that features French horns, and finally an angry dance in 7/8 that leads to the grand finale. Not easy but well worth the effort.
