Metamorphosis

According to program notes by the composer, this work is a set of variations on Dies Irae.  After a somber presentation of the theme, each of the minor variations becomes more rhythmically and harmonically complex.  The fourth variation is tranquil while the fifth is joyful.  The composer sees the work as a progression from darkness to light; from sorrow to joy.  This intriguing work certainly merits your investigation.
