The Bastiens' Older Beginner Piano Course was written specifically for the requirements and desires of teenage and adult students with many demands on their time. This comprehensive chord approach assumes no prior knowledge of music, and incorporates theory and technique exercises into a fun-filled course of study. Peppered with pleasing piano arrangements of popular folk and classical melodies, this course also includes attractive and accessible pop and blues pieces to add spice with a modern flair.  Level 1 begins with four pre-reading tunes on white keys and then launches into reading from the grand staff in C Major position. Soon after, tonic and dominant chords are included in the left hand. Simple chord symbols are found above the staff for all tunes of the Piano Course, Levels 1 and 2. The student stays in C Major position for the first third of the Level 1 book and then learns tunes in F, G, D, A Major positions as well as alternate hand positions towards the end of Level 1.
