Ancient Voices, Distant Storms
Ancient Voices Distant Storms is based on the music and sounds the composer heard while visiting Japan. It tries to re-create the great bells one finds outside Japanese temples and religious sites. The first part comprises simple, resonant melody lines played on the mallet instruments. The second part is driven by Kodo-style eighth notes and a series of characteristically Asian ostinati spread about the ensemble.
