Appalachian Dreams
Two English folk songs, popular in the southern Appalachians during the early years of American history, provide the melodic material for this epic work. Going to Boston and Soldier, Won't You Marry Me? are heard throughout in various forms. After the very peaceful and tranquil opening, a bold, powerful statement is made, then leads to a dreamlike, mesmerizing section. With a powerful percussion contribution, the ensemble then combines forces, driving to a resounding conclusion.
