James Miley presents a very hip arrangement of a great contemporary tune. Soundgarden's Black Hole Sun is masterfully scored for the modern big band, making great use of interesting saxophone effects, a wonderful rhythm section feel, neat rhythmic ideas, and very playable ensemble parts. The trumpet range is an optional written D. The melody is stated by tenor saxophone and trumpet with warm, dissonant backgrounds provided by the ensemble. The soloists can be as chosen for tenor saxophone, trumpet and/or trombone, making this very flexible for the strengths of your band.
