Expressive Sight-Reading for Orchestra
A sequential approach to teaching sight-reading in the string ensemble, appropriate for middle school through high school. The method features over 45 sequenced sight-reading pieces, sight-reading notes for the teacher for each arrangement, and materials organized into units that progressively address bowing styles, rhythms, meter, and key (D, G, and C major; B, E, and A minor). Pre- and post-tests are also included in each unit for assessing individual student progress. Units 1-6 contain rhythm reading exercises, scale warm-ups, unison reading, and orchestra arrangement readings with parts. Units 7-12 each contain scale warm-ups for each piece and longer orchestra readings.
