Focusing on narratives and song texts from the Old Testament, Douglas O'Donnell has written a persuasive commentary on the use of hymns in the worshipping congregation.  His survey through scripture and hymnody is expansive, and includes samples of timeless hymns as well as newly-composed praise choruses that capture the vibrancy of congregational song.  In this thoughtful volume, we find that hymns are paramount in the Christian church both as a vehicle to express praise to God, and a means to remind the congregation of God's relevance in human history.
