This ingenious little solo is a highly successful recital piece. Written to "sound hard," it is actually very easy to learn, even for younger students because of the repetitive patterns. The melody is woven between the hands in short motives. The right hand plays broken thirds, moves by steps down the keyboard, while the left hand plays either two black-key notes or open fifths in crosshand, alternating motives. It's in 6/8, allegro, with syncopated pedaling. The motives are in eighth notes throughout.
