"Kandinsky Images," which I composed for violinist Michael Jorgensen and pianist Caleb Harris in 2009, is inspired by four of Wassily Kandinsky's paintings. Like Kandinsky's "In Blue," my opening movement features themes of different shapes and bold colors. The second movement, "Several Circles," is darker in timbre, featuring circling motives and tremolos in the violin. "Twilight" reflects the tranquil, yet noble and austere, nature of Kandinsky's painting. Like Kandinsky's "Rider of the Apocalypse," my music is an intense and fast, yet at times, violent, finale to my work.
