Overture for Timpani

Written in "overture" form, this composition presents a unique set of musical challenges to the developing percussionist or timpanist. Multiple rhythms, meters, dynamic levels and tempos create a very diverse solo. Scored for five drums, with the fifth (highest, or piccolo drum) uniquely positioned for more convenient access for the faster sections of the piece. A creative tuning guide is used throughout as there are seven pitch changes, mostly on the second drum. With a length of about three minutes and 15 seconds, this will be a very enjoyable solo to perfect.
