Slightly Ahead of Its Time
Here's a medium tempo, straight-eighth solo feature in separate arrangements for alto sax, tenor sax or trumpet/flugelhorn. Appropriate modifications to the ensemble parts in each chart have been made so that all players have a part to play. The title is derived from the solo melody which is constantly pushing ahead by an eighth note, thereby being "slightly ahead" of the time. Written solos and solo fills are provided, but an improvised solo is easily accomplished by using the concert B-flat major scale. Optionally, the ending can be extended and the soloist only has to use a concert D-flat major scale to be successful. Slightly Ahead of Its Time provides a nice contemporary setting to feature the soloist while giving the ensemble plenty of melodic supporting material.
