Stompin' at the Savoy
If there is one chart that seems to capture the essence of Stan Kenton's mid-fifties bands, this is the one! The chart swings like mad from downbeat to the end. This is one of Bill Holman's best early charts, with great ensemble sections and great solo spaces for guitar or piano, bass, trumpet, and tenor saxophone. This is very sophisticated music included on arguably the best album the Kenton band ever recorded, Contemporary Concepts. This edited version of Stomping at the Savoy is the same as the original except it is written for eight brass instead of ten.
