Inspired by stands of old forests in the Adirondack Mountains of New York, this compelling work is deserving of the description "tone poem." It paints a vivid musical picture of the life of a forest, the creatures that live there and their struggle to survive against natural elements and the intrusion of man. A bold and powerful work, it sits on the easier side of the medium level, and presents a wonderful programming opportunity for concert bands. Highly recommended!
