The Day the Clowns Cried

Quincy Hilliard - Northeastern Music Publications
This moving and very touching composition is a tribute to those who lost their lives in the catastrophic Ringling Brothers Circus fire on July 6, 1944 in Hartford, Connecticut.  The piece begins with a lively circus march but the music quickly turns ominous as fire sweeps through the Big Top.  A slow, mournful clarinet cadenza signifies the demise of the tent and the huge loss of life in the tragedy.
