Transcending
Winner of the 2016 Texas Orchestra Directors Association composition contest, this piece is built completely on the four notes that are first heard in the trumpets and are continually used as the basis for all of the musical language in the work. It explores fanfares, relative minor keys, Celtic grooves, the Dorian mode, counterpoint, and much more all based on the four-note motif. The piece ends triumphantly with a fanfare-like return of the B theme that leads to a majestic return of the main theme and a short dramatic coda.
