Two Thoughts about the Piano was co-commissioned by the Carnegie Hall Corporation and the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival. It includes two pieces: Intermittences (6 minutes) and Catenaires (4 minutes). Intermittences was first performed in 2006 by pianist Peter Serkin, for whom it was written. Catenaires was first performed in 2006 by pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard, for whom it was written. This publication includes brief yet insightful notes by Elliott Carter on each piece.
