Twelve outstanding arrangements for the young jazz ensemble, including two brand new charts never before available, make this collection a real bargain. A variety of styles and tempos are represented, including swing, ballad, Latin, holiday, rock and the classic Take Five in 5/4 time. This collection of charts is written for full instrumentation of five saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones and four rhythm, but is designed to sound full and complete with reduced instrumentation of just twelve players: four saxes, five brass, piano, bass and drums. Optional parts are available for flute, clarinet, horn, baritone horn TC and tuba. Guitar chord frames are included to assist young guitarists. Solos are written out for improvised sections, and there is plenty of full-sounding ensemble playing. The conductor's book includes full-length CD recordings. Titles include: Take Five (Mike Lewis); Summertime (Calvin Custer); On Green Dolphin Street (Victor Lopez); Misty (Mike Lewis); Blues In the Night (Calvin Custer); Tastes Like Chicken (Kris Berg); Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (Victor Lopez); Sax to the Max (Mike Lewis); Jumpin' at the Woodside (Paul Cook); Jungle Boogie (Victor Lopez); Burritos to Go (Victor Lopez) and Night and Day (David Pugh).
