Trade Secrets is a conference for music educators, by music educators, featuring four headlining presenters: Dr. Louis Bergonzi, Donald Brinegar, Dr. Edith Copley and Anthony Maeillo. Dr. Bergonzi is a faculty member at the University of Illinois and specializes in orchestra; Mr. Brinegar is an adjunct professor of choral music at the USC Thornton School of Music; Dr. Copley teaches choral music at Northern Arizona University; and Mr. Maiello is presently the associate director of George Mason University's School of Music and specializes in orchestra and band.

A New Heaven and a New Earth

The Presbyterian Association of Musicians (PAM) sponsors two identical Worship and Music conferences at Montreat Conference Center each summer. These conferences, guided by the principles of Reformed worship, provide opportunities for vital worship experiences and offer venues to explore various ways to enrich the liturgical life of the local church. During the 2013 conference, participants will participate in choirs, instrumental playing, handbell ringing, liturgical dance, and Orff playing. Conferees will also have opportunities for seminars on preaching, spirituality, bible study, and hymnody and world music. Register now for these multi-publisher new music reading sessions! Featured clinicians for the School session will be Sally Albrecht (Alfred Music) and Victor Johnson (Heritage/Lorenz). The Church session will feature music from the fine catalogs of The Lorenz Corporation and will be led by the great composer, Victor Johnson!. For the School session, register ON or BEFORE July 12 and the registration is only $50.00. AFTER July 12, the registration will be $60.00. Lunch is included in the registration for the School session. The evening Church session is still only $20.00.

The Birch Bay Band Workshop started over 55 years ago as a way for band teachers to hear the new band works that have been published and to share ideas and stories from the classroom. The tradition continues this year featuring Larry Gookin and Leo Dodd as clinicians. We will also have a special workshop featuring Peter Boonshaft.

To many directors, the time outside of the classroom or rehearsal hall is just as important as the music. During this time, stories and ideas are shared, and friendships are made.

Over the years, the Birch Bay Band Workshop has developed many traditions, such as the Monday night Pizza Party, Tuesday golf tournament with the Yamaha Hole-in-One contest, Wednesday night jazz jam session overlooking Birch Bay, and the Thursday evening salmon barbecue on the beach.

Bring your instrument and your family to join us for a fantastic week of music reading.
