James Winfield is a long-time Chicago area musician—conductor, organist, composer and arranger, pianist and singer. Recently retired after 40 years as music director and organist of the Congregational Churches of Western Springs and Elmhurst, he presently serves as organist of Union Church of Hinsdale and organist/choir director of Temple B’nai Abraham Zion of Oak Park. Mr. Winfield holds an undergraduate degree in organ performance from Indiana University, and a graduate degree in conducting from Northwestern University. His 15-year association with the Chicago Symphony Chorus included seven years as a professional chorister and eight years as assistant conductor and associate director. Jim was Founder and Music Director of The Tower Chorale, a large community chorus based in Western Springs, and conducted the group for 25 seasons. He was also Music Director of the West Suburban Symphony Orchestra for eight years. Mr. Winfield has been a member of ASCAP, Chorus America and the American Guild of Organists, and presently serves on the board of directors of the United Church of Christ Musicians Association. He lives in Darien, Illinois.
