Gary Robert Buchanan, Nevada based composer/conductor, holds degrees and certifications from numerous institutions where he has both studied and taught, including the North Carolina School of the Arts (high school/college); Academia Chigiana Musicale in Siena, Italy; the University of North Carolina; the University of Washington, Seattle; and the Queensland Conservatorium in Brisbane, Australia. Since 1979 he has been Music Director for Cosolargy International and The Music Guild (primary publisher). Dr. Buchanan's commissions and global premieres have been composed for virtually every type of musical ensemble over the last half century. He has followed in the path and styles of his teachers, e.g., Vittorio Giannini, Louis Mennini, Robert Ward, William Bergsma, Aaron Copland (masterclasses), Franco Donatoni, and Hans Werner Henze (masterclasses). In Nevada Buchanan is founding conductor of The Foundation Orchestra (since 1988/AEF&OSC), Music Director for the Jamilian Handbell Choir,Tuba Christmas, staff arranger for the Reno POPs Orchestra, regular guest conductor for the Northern Nevada Concert Orchestra Association, and has received complimentary international reviews in Europe, Asia, Australia, South and North America.His publishers have been E.C. Schirmer, J, Albert & Sons, Galaxy/Galliard, Fanfare Publications, and Cosolargy International.
