Ron Allen, Concert Band Editor for J.W. Pepper, was named the 2010 recipient of the Kansas Bandmasters Association's "Outstanding Contribution to Bands Award" at their 37th annual convention held on July 16, 2010.   "The organization is open to anyone who is interested in fostering better band music and perpetuating the long tradition of bands in Kansas."   The Outstanding Contributor Award is presented each year to an individual recommended by the general membership to the Board of Directors.  

Marion Roberts, KBA President, pictured to the right of Allen in this photo, gave the following reason for Ron to be honored in this manner. "Ron Allen has earned this award for providing outstanding personal and professional service to every director with whom he has had contact.  As a representative for many years with Wingert-Jones Music and most recently with J.W. Pepper, he makes recommendations for high-quality music selections for bands of all sizes and abilities, and gives suggestions for solos and ensembles to students who range in abilities from beginner to professional."

According to Director of Product Evaluation, David Giardiniere, "Ron is an undeniable expert in the field of concert band literature. This comes with years of experience and a commitment to keep current with artistic activity in the field.  He has built long-lasting relationships with other band directors in his area, and is eager to welcome new conductors and teachers into the profession."

In an effort to pass along lessons that he has learned in his many years of classical repertoire, Ron uses his time away from Pepper to inspire young musicians.  Ron maintains a private studio for student musicians up to the high school level.  He is also currently a member of the Northwinds Symphonic Band, which is made up of band directors and music educators in and around the greater Kansas City area.  He has said that this gives him the opportunity to keep playing and "stay in touch with directors, teachers and former students while performing a wide variety of great band literature."
