10 Improvisational Tenor Sax Etudes

Originally written with flute players in mind, these etudes actually work great for tenor sax too! They cover a wide variety of standard jazz material and are recommended for classical as well as jazz players and woodwind doublers.

These etudes, originally played on flute and transcribed by saxophonist/woodwinds virtuoso Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews Band, Bela Fleck the Flecktones), demonstrate his experience, expertise, and passion for music, improvisation, and music education. Jeff plays the MP3s available on the website.

In places, you will see notes paired above and below each other - this occurs when the range goes beyond the traditional written range of the tenor and into the altissimo. Jeff recommends playing the upper notes if you can, but of course the lower ones are acceptable as well. Put in the work to be able to play in that upper register!
