This Advent prayer is filled with longing for the Messiah and for the promise of redemption. Plaintive with a haunting quality, it is beautifully expressive and particularly effective with the added orchestration. Hints of O Come, O Come Emmanuel, and a ritornello on the text "Veni, veni Redemptor" appear as a musical halo throughout the work, giving a sense of awe and mystery. Breathtaking!
