Miss Wheatley's Garden, Volume 1
(Three Songs on Poetry by African-American Women)
Rosephanye Powell - Gentry Publications

Miss Wheatley's Garden, Volume 1
This beautiful art-song collection is named after Phillis Wheatley, America's first female African-American poet, whose poems were an inspiration to George Washington as well as many other African-American women poets, three of whom are represented in this collection for solo voice and piano. African-American composer Rosephanye Powell has set poems by Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, Angelina Weld Grimke, and Georgia Douglas Johnson.
