Descarga Para Ti
Publisher Desc.
"Descarga Para Ti," loosely translated "jam session for you."Having performed many years with a Salsa Band as a pianist, we often had an on the spot jam session or so called "descarga." This would often be a continuous and lengthy percussion groove, supported by the piano and acoustic bass. When ready, the lead horn player will improvise a melodic line, usually two bars, of which then the rest of the horn section repeats, creating a horn section melody and harmony. Often the vocalist will improvise a "chorus shout" in between the horn section melody. Other times, each member of the horn section, the piano or bass player take turns improvising or soloing between the improvised horn section melodies as well. Towards the end of the "descarga" the percussion section take turns improvising while one percussionist keeps the groove going. When ready, the lead percussionist will play a specific rhythm pattern cuing everyone that the "descarga" is coming to a close. This piece emulates that same informal and conversational feel with the steady and continuous percussion rhythms, horn shouts and the imitation of the piano by the high woodwinds. Your group surely will enjoy this "jam session for you."
