As recorded by the Oliver Nelson Orchestra, Heidi is the third movement of the Impressions of Berlin suite. A gorgeous solo feature for alto saxophone throughout, this piece builds from a quiet beginning to a very powerful point with a bolero-type tension as it develops, before it diminishes to a quiet ending. The pro version includes flute doubles, wider brass ranges, and a lengthier solo as in Nelson's recording, while the edited version is in a lower key, has a shorter solo section, and simpler brass ranges making it more playable for both the soloist and the ensemble while still maintaining the integrity of Nelson's beautiful ballad.
