Wayfaring Stranger
The first movement from Averitt's collection of four American shape note folk songs and hymns. Though presented traditionally both melodically and harmonically in the choral lines, the four hand piano accompaniment sets the stage for a truly fresh feeling arrangement that allows you to teach and showcase classic early Americana style and culture with a twist. Plenty of opportunities for unison exist to feature the beautiful and plaintive melody, and the simple open harmonic structure remains true to the original style.
