Chilcott's gentle and expressive setting of this well-loved carol opens with unison voices accompanied by organ. In verse two, SATB voices sing unaccompanied, with beautiful extended harmonies and suspensions. The organ and unison voices return for verse three, capped by an angelic soprano descant.
