Samba for a Sunday Afternoon

Take your students on an auditory trip through the streets of Brazil with this challenging but fun samba. Written for string orchestra, drum set, and caxixi (a large gourd shaker), this piece provides the perfect opportunity to incorporate your school's percussion students into your string program.  Every section gets a shot at the melody supported by the rhythmic intricacies and contemporary harmonies found in the music of Brazil. Don't be surprised to see your audience gently swaying in their seats or creating an impromptu samba line as your students play this dance-worthy tune. If your school has an active percussion ensemble, you can incorporate a whole samba drum line in place of the drum set!
