Publisher Desc.  ZATARRA is a fantasy overture based on the movie version of the fictional story of the Count of Monte Cristo. As the story goes, to make a long story short, Edmond Dantes, a young Frenchman, is arrested and sent to the prison island, Chateau Dif, where he is kept for 16 years. Upon his escape, he befriends a ship-full of pirates and becomes their shipmate and they give him the name Zatarra, which means, "driftwood" since he washed up from the sea having swum from the prison. A story of love, friendship, loyalty, betrayal, vengeance and forgiveness, story is one for the ages, whether in book form, movie or music. This piece is simply a fantasy overture to capture some of the heart and emotions of this great story. This is a powerful and challenging piece your band and audience are certain to enjoy, as it was very much a joy to write. With full and powerful low brass, beautiful woodwinds, and awe-inspiring percussion, this piece will not leave you wanting. As inspiration for creative ideas and inspiration came about, the piece evolved into more than I initially imagined. My love for the piece is equaled by my love for the story of The Count of Monte Cristo. I hope and pray I leave you with that blessing as well.
