"Song for the Disappointed" is a setting of text by American
poet Ella Wheeler Wilcox, which sings not for the victor but for those who
try but fall short. The piece was premiered by the Princeton Singers under
the direction of Dr. Steven Sametz during the 2012 ACDA Summer Conference in
Washington, D.C. "Song for the Disappointed" is the composer's
homage to the middle schoolers he teaches, who are arguably in some of the
toughest times in their young lives and often feel as if they've fallen short
(only to one day rise in glory, of course!).
