The chaconne form, very popular during the Baroque era, consists of a
repeating harmonic pattern which is variously embellished and or- namented as
the piece proceeds. Each repetition of the pattern has its own organic life
and there is an underlying flow to how the piece de- velops within this
framework. My chaconne is loosely based on one in F major for the lute
composed by Bohemian lutenist and guitarist, Jan Antonin Losy Graf von
Losinthal (Johann Losy) (1651-1721).
This CHACONNE for guitar quartet was completed on October 9, 2010, which
would have been John Lennons 70th birthday. It is ded- icated to him and his
philosophy of peace. The melody of the song Give Peace a Chance is first
quoted at measure 128 in guitars 3 & 4 and from there appears at various
points.
