One of the earliest compositions in this style, The March is special because the Trio includes a sudden brisk tempo change and a ragtime style. The woodwinds and xylophone are prominent before the brass joins them on the repeat. The piece concludes with a restatement of the 1st strain again in the "slow drag" tempo.
