The Pleistocene Era was the last era of geologic time before the arrival of humans in North America. During the Pleistocene, the Great Plains were rich with mammalian megafauna, including mammoths, pronghorn antelope and bison. This piece evokes the movement character of each animal as they travel across the plains. Within a common tempo of 120 bpm, the piece evokes in turn the heavy footfall of the mammoth, the fleet-footed pronghorn and the thundering hooves of hundreds of bison.
