Orchestral Suite #1

The suite is a traditional work, combining characteristically English (Pre-WWII) ideas with elements of the split-tonic heard in the concerto. The orchestration of the first two movements also speaks with an inherently English reservation and dignity to it. In the final movement, the suite comes to a soft apex as the oboe quotes the primary theme of the first movement before being bustled out by the strings and brass.
