35 Piano Sonatas

Three early sonatas, written when Beethoven was twelve years old, are included in this new critical edition of the complete Beethoven sonatas, edited by scholar Barry Cooper.  Notes are clear, beautifully printed, and spacious.  Each of the three volumes includes a CD of spoken commentary and demonstrations. The written introduction to each volume covers performance practice including advice on articulation, dynamics and pedaling. Each volume includes a separate critical commentary with extensive, detailed notes on the history of each sonata, source information, facsimiles, photographs and portraits. Volume 1 includes 15 sonatas, the three early sonatas (WoO47) through Op. 14, No. 2 and Op. 49, Nos. 1 & 2. Volume 2 includes ten sonatas, Op. 22 through Op. 54, not including Op. 49, Nos. 1 & 2. Volume 3 includes ten sonatas, Op. 57 through Op. 111.
