Kabalevsky (1904-1987) believed that "no piece of music, however short and modest, should pass by a child without touching his mind and heart." His last set of piano pieces for students was composed between 1972 and 1974, when the composer was in his late sixties. These were also his last compositions for piano. In Kabalevsky's output, 35 Easy Pieces for Children most closely resembles 24 Pieces for Children, Op. 39, which was composed thirty years earlier. These are exquisite miniatures by a master composer, conceived to teach technical as well as musical progress.
