The 40 short etudes are perfect for helping to develop the young cellist's left and right hand technique as well as their awareness of how technique and musical ideas work together. They cover bow speed, various articulations, string crossings, left hand speed and extensions, as well as various time signatures (6/8, 12/8 and 5/4 included) and are written in key signatures up to 3 sharps and 3 flats. The musical language is definitely more up to date than Dotzauer! And because these etudes are short, your 9 or 10 year old students should be able to focus and do them well. Older and more advanced students will find benefits too. For someone coming back to the cello after many years, these etudes are very accessible. Any player suffering from overuse or other playing injuries will be able to find etudes that can help them regain their cello footing. Each etude is titled, giving an idea for musical focus. Tempo markings are included only as a suggested tempo area. They can be used as a goal or adjusted according to what is best for the student or player. I hope, whether you are a student, a teacher or other cellist needing some first position fun, that you enjoy and benefit from these 40 Etudes.
