Variations on a Theme of Tchaikovsky
A piece for string orchestra composed by Anton Arensky in 1864 as a tribute to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky just after his death. Originally written as the slow movement of Arensky's String Quartet No. 2 in A minor, Op. 35, scored for violin, viola, and 2 cellos. The theme is based on the melody, "Legend: Christ in His Garden," a song from his work Sixteen Children’s Songs, Op. 54.
