This SSAATB unaccompanied piece has a simple theme and even simpler text,
and the flowing phrases and approachable intervals make this an ideal piece
to program for either a secular or sacred setting.
The main theme is passed along to each of the voice parts during the A
section, and the B section has some mild dissonance in the treble voices,
juxtaposed against the insistent one-note basses. The transition from B section back to the A
theme is a subtle hat-tip to Randall Thompson's classic choral masterpiece,
and the ending swells into a majestic key change.
I hope that the choir and audience enjoy singing and listening to this
piece.
Regards,
Joe Eckman
